iary with pictures about my CH 701 project

Click picture to enlarge!

Almost all Jpeg-compressed pictures of these pages have 1152 x 864 pixel resolution, so every required details should be available.

I do NOT translate any measures to inches, feet...

Only taxes will be converted to U$ dollars with current exchange rate.

By the way, I'm not pro in english language, so be patient by "translating" all these stories by yourself again :-)

Airmail

This was all, what I got by airmail from Zenair :-) Cost was 335 U$.

Construction and tools

There was this letter size binder, which included building instructions and some black & white detailed picture pages.

Drawings

There were also these CAD drawings of the plane (63 pages).
All components were detailed quite perfectly.

Aluminum works

This is my garage, where I will build necessary lights, power outlets and working table in next weekend.

Jigs

This is my "wood hobbies room", what I will use to build all necessary jigs.

Electric

As I'm electronic designer, I have my own "laboratory". There I will build strobos, servos for trim and flaperons, LCD screen for GPS-map, fuel meters, temperatures etc... This Hammond, what you see here, will be hopefully repaired before I need this room for aircraft components. Yes, I play keyboards in our local "jamming"-bar :-)

Material calculating

There is a awfull weather outside and garage project will be pushed later. So, I decide to calculate materials for wings and create order for Lasercoat Oy, who will deliver all required aluminium for my plane.

Cutting jig 1

Today I bought plywood for wing jigs. Required for bending jigs for ribs. Plywood size was 1550 x 1250 x 21mm.
Cost was about 20 U$

Cutting jig 2

First thing is to mark all "check points" to plywood. There is numerical table in drawings, which includes all necessary position information for curve points.
This jig is for aluminium cutting. So, almost every size of jig needs to be expanded 17mm. Only nose curve has 3mm expansion.

Cutting jig 3

Curve ruler was too short for rear rib, so I used thin woodstick with little nails to get correct rib curve.
Stoled from the flower-pot :-).

Completed jig drawings

Wing rib jig drawings finished.
Right now we have few days holiday in here, in Finland and I will put this project for hold tomorrow. I need to go barbegue now. Bye!

At this point, tolerance is under 0.5 mm, and I don't use sand paper yet!
Next I need to make 8 degrees obliques for bending jigs.

Finished paper works (construction licence application) for our local EAA. Under paper is more plywood for inner wing rib jigs.

Inner wing ribs.

Fine tuning for left/right ribs. Right now, they are exactly same side and shape.

20.05.2001

I'm so sorry for delay of these pages!
I really had so much to do with my apartment.

Next (at beginning of june) I need to visit our neighbour country, Sweden. There is a cheapest place under 1000 miles to get 6061 etc. aluminium. Company name is Arigoteknik Ab, and it has own www-pages: http://www.arigoteknik.se

"Anti collision" strobo system under construction.

Flash control unit

This control unit can drive simultaneously several strobo units. It has double-flash & single flash capability.

Strobo tube unit under radio-noise and strobo tube voltage measuring

This was GREAT test. Tube unit didn't create any radio interferences! Just a very little "snap" can heard, when tube unit was under 10 cm from receiver

Strobo unit just before "cast plastic?", which is required for insulation of water and electric shortcuts.

I will insert all necessary schematics to my www-pages, if you would like to build these kind of strobos by yourself.
There will be available new www-page for schematics in couple days.

08.06.2001

YES! Building licence arrived. Thanks goes to our local experimental organisation, specially to Markku Hiedanpää and civil aviation administration.

The plane will be placed to normal experimental category. So, I don't need to get ultra light-licence for it! I have PPL(A) already and it's more than enough.

13.08.2001

Ok, my summer holiday has gone :-( and I can continue with my plane project :-)

I hope, that Arigoteknik can supply my aluminiums as soon as possible, because I didn't have enough time in summer holiday to visit there. So, they need to send them by cargo... I hope, they can collect ALL ordered materials at once, since they haven't 0.016" 6061-T6 sheets at July on their stock....

As you see, my carage has quite a lot of light power :-) 5 pieces 150W halogen and double tube fluorescent lights. Believe me, it's much easier work with good lights!

You never have too much outlets! On each wall and even ceiling...

There is all required plans for wings on the wall. I don't mess my papers with aluminium dust by my hands and I don't need to check details from binder all the time.

14.08.2001

GPS prototype works fine. Next thing to do; 16 bit processor and FLASH memory to save graphic maps...

16.09.2001

I have a little 2024-T3 aluminium for bending and riveting tests. So, I deside test bending first...

Hey! This was EASY! No cracks and even tightest curve was easy to bend. It took only ten minutes to bend first test rib.

Next I will bend all ribs..

You need only a little hammer and piece of wood for this.....

Now I have FREE www-space for all construction pictures without any banners! Thanks goes to Jussi Paju.

29.10.2001: Okay, all wing ribs has been bended. Next thing is to create lightening holes and flang them with jigs maded by nylon. When all lightening holes are ready, I start to fix flanges with quite simple tools... (2 pieces 10mm diameter steel rods, soldered together...) Tolerance (shape) is 1mm right now and after fixing,... just gues...

Rev-4 plans arrived... (Increasing maximum weight up to 1100 lbs)

Simple way to prevent "oil can" effect on wings (& fuselage). Take piece of .025 sheet and make L-stiffeners 17x17mm, flang them to correct shape and rivet them directly to the wing skin middle of ribs 2-3, 4-5 and 5-6 (top and bottom skins and same direction as rear ribs). Couple test pictures below. You don't need to rivet these to front and rear spars at all!
